Think back to your teen years for a moment.

I emerged from my adolescence with quite a few skills and lots of experiences, but accomplishments? Not many.

And that’s okay. I turned out great!

But I’m always impressed by folks who aren’t satisfied with acquiring skills and experiences. They want to accomplish something, too.

Meet Isabelle Knight. She has published a four-book middle-grade fantasy series, and she’s not yet blown out the candles on her 18th birthday cake. I’m excited for you to get to meet this extraordinary young person and cheer her on.

Let’s get to know Isabelle

I’m the middle-grade fantasy author of the Enchantria series, which I began writing at age 10 and published later. A lifelong book and cat lover, I reside in a book-filled apartment surrounded by countless stuffed pandas and enough books to start my own bookstore. When I’m not writing about creepy shadows, daring heroines, and magical adventures, I’m talking about books, writing, and sharing writerly ramblings on my blog and YouTube channel.

Ella Enchanted is a childhood favorite of mine! It was the first full-length novel I ever read and truly fell in love with. I remember reading that book over fifty times, and I just adored the world and all of Ella’s adventures! The Warriors series by Erin Hunter was another that got me into reading, and I was thoroughly obsessed for a good few years.

A few more favorite books include Narnia, Percy Jackson, and the Heroes of Olympus, and I have re-read them so many times that the pages are nearly falling out!

I also have a million more fantasy novels that I have fallen in love with an eclectic collection of middle-grade books. I love to browse through these and enjoy picking up an old favorite just to fall back into the world.

Little Women is a classic for good reason! It manages to explore so much throughout the story, such as sisterhood, growing up, ambition, temper, grief, loss, and that is something I greatly admire.

The Enchantria Series (4 books total)

Elena Ramirez’s mother disappeared eleven years ago. On her sixteenth birthday, Elena finds her way to the magical land of Enchantria, only to find that she is the subject of a centuries-old prophecy that is now being fulfilled. With the old prophecy being fulfilled, Ravena, the dark lady of the ravens, awakens and is now determined to destroy Enchantria at any cost. Elena and her new friends must fight against Ravena and undertake a series of dangerous quests to save Enchantria. If they fail, Enchantria is doomed. And Ravena is getting stronger by the minute. Will they manage to defeat Ravena and restore order to the land, or will Ravena destroy Enchantria once and for all?

Think a mix of Wilderlore by Amanda Foody and Starfell by Jessica Renwick

I think a lot of factors led me to accomplish this. For one, I’m homeschooled, which means I have a lot more time and freedom to pursue creative endeavors like writing, and I have received a lot of support from my wonderful friends and family!

Another thing (which is probably a terribly odd factor, but a factor nonetheless) was the fact that I was basically cooped up at home all summer! Summers where I live are sweltering, and we weren’t really going anywhere for a holiday, so I didn’t really have anything to do. I was just staring at my ceiling in boredom before remembering I’d had this book idea for years and that perhaps I ought to try and write it out. So boredom definitely pushed me to take the leap and actually start writing out that book!

Books that Isabelle read and loved

• Greenglass House by Kate Milford. It is such a beautifully unique, cozy, and deep read that is perfect to curl up with—alongside a mug of hot chocolate, especially in winter.

• Nevermoor by Jessica Renwick. This book is so very whimsical, and I love the main character so much. It’s just such a great middle-grade adventure.

• Nell O’Dell Hates Quests by Emily B. Martin. This is such a beautiful middle-grade book with humor and adventure that nearly brought me to tears.
