Meet Kori Morgan, Author & Founder of Inkling Creative Strategies
A literary meet-'n'-greet in 10 pictures or less (oop, today it's 11)
Welcome back!
Today, I’m excited for you to get to know Kori Morgan.
If you’ve got a soft spot for rock bands and show tunes, for bicycles and monster trucks, then she may just be your soul sister.
She’s an author of both fiction and nonfiction. When she’s not writing, she’s mentoring authors on their creative journeys.
And, without further ado, Kori will take it from here…
All About Kori
Hi there! I'm Kori Morgan—author, disciple, and creative entrepreneur.
I graduated from Ohio Northern University and then snagged a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from West Virginia University. My work has appeared in literary journals like Shenandoah, SN Review, Blanket Sea, Agape Review, Switchback, Rubbertop Review, Cantos, and Clayjar Review.
I’m the author of The Goodbye-Love Generation: A Novel in Stories, which is about a Kent, Ohio-based rock band navigating the Northeast Ohio music scene during the Vietnam era.
My essay collection, Why I Dyed My Hair Purple & Other Unorthodox Stories, is coming out later this year from Calla Press Publishing. It tells the story of my conversion to Christianity and the role the arts played in my testimony.
I’m also the founder of Inkling Creative Strategies, an author services company that helps writers reach their full creative potential so they can impact and inspire readers.
I don't like Ayn Rand on principle, but The Fountainhead is one of my all-time favorites.
Which author has most impacted or inspired your writing? Flannery O’Connor
Name 1-3 writers you admire: C.S. Lewis, Vladimir Nabokov, Nevil Shute
A watch-worthy book-to-screen adaptation: Never Let Me Go

The Goodbye Love Generation: A Novel in Stories
Kent, Ohio, 1969: The Purple Orange is rapidly becoming one of the most popular bands in northeastern Ohio's thriving music scene. Guitarist Alex Johnson is struggling to escape his painful and abusive past through his musical ambitions, while their impulsive lead singer, Maddy Winters, is turning heads with her captivating voice and larger-than-life personality.
But when the shootings at Kent State in May, 1970 shatter the group and their expectations of stardom, they each must come to terms with how the tragedy defines their art, relationships, and politics—and how it will shape their identities in the years to come.

Catch you next time,

Kori, I also participated in speech and debate in high school. My most-recycled categories were Lincoln-Douglas Value Debate, Dramatic Interpretation, Original Oratory, and Extemporaneous Speaking (which I always made sure to add on, ensuring Iron Man status at every tournament). I tried a few other categories over the years, but those were my go-tos. However, being homeschooled, I was in a homeschool league (NCFCA). I enjoyed learning more about you through this fun format!
