All About Rachel
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest the youngest of three kids, but I have lived and traveled all over the U.S. and several other countries.
As a child, I was a slow reader, but with the help of my mom and a third-grade teacher, I quickly became a bookworm.
When I’m not writing, reading, or working at my day job, I spend my time volunteering with Civil Air Patrol, running sound at church, and hanging out with friends and family. I’m fond of board games, singing, and travel. I am not fond of bees.
I’m interested in old Germanic languages and their literature (medieval), TV and film, book binding, and evening walks.
I’m a sucker for highly creative, well-written and acted TV shows. And LEGOs.
I read this list with growing horror.
Multiple reads vs. one at a time? When it comes to non-fiction and scholarly books, multiple reads. With fiction, I read one at a time.

I love that your mom and third-grade teacher nudged you toward books. My fourth-grader loves to read blurby nonfiction books, but chapter books still kind of intimidate him. The Wall of Text on the page isn't as visually exciting as a full-color spread about the solar system or the great white shark. But, I'm confident that one day his love of stories will drive him to those oh-so good novels.
