“Birds in their little nests agree!” I never knew where that line came from but I’ve read it in other books—characters quoted it.
I love how your boys were impacted by that. I have a feeling my kiddos would have rolled their eyes and said, “Moooommm.” 😄 (On the other hand, my teen son and I both cried over the last chapter of The House at Pooh Corner, so they aren’t devoid of all feeling!
Thank you for sharing this, and how you dealt with their tears. I might have pressed it to find out what exactly made them cry, but it's probably best to let our kids feel things without always having to explain them.
Oh wow, thank you Michelle! This tender (while still keeping it real) moment brought tears to my eyes. And I’ll take that encouragement as I continue drafting a new middle grade.
Savvy indeed—that’s an impressive win!
It sure was unexpected!

Oh, the last chapter of The House at Pooh Corner. That is emotional for sure. What a sweet moment with your son!

I wanted to know, but I also know my boys, and they sometimes can't put things into words as readily as their wordy mom. 😊
Beautiful! A few recommendations: Boy Wanted by Frank Crane, What a Baby Costs by Edgar Guest, and The Perfect Dinner Table by Edgar Guest.
Honorable Mention: King Canute on the Seashore and For Want of a Horseshoe Nail both by William J. Bennett.
Thank you! I will check these out!

You never know which kid will hear your story at the exact moment it's needed.
Whoa, that survey at the end caught me off guard. I could almost wish for a title: Alarmed and stoked!
Yes! Reminds me of the classic "nervous but excited" 😆
Love that picture of your boys! 🤣
That sequence may have just played out in my living room with my boys minutes before reading this!
Ha! Boys never fail to keep it interesting. I'm told that they mellow out as they get older. We'll see!
